A couple of weeks ago on the Instagram account hxtspur. I asked for your opinions about Spurs that may not be well perceived in the Tottenham Hotspur’s community. Today I will be reacting to them and giving my opinion on your takes. Now, stating the obvious this may be fairly controversial and I want to start by saying I respects all your opinions and it’s good to discuss the issues and players at our club, I hope to involve you all more in the future. Well let’s begin.
Ryan Mason should have taken the job permanently.
Ryan Mason is a Spurs legend who has dedicated his life to this club. I feel tremendously sorry how his career panned out as he suffered a horrible injury, that cut his career short at only 27 as he fractured his skull. I think he will be an incredible manager one day I have no doubt, in fact I think the boy from Enfield will be England manager one day. He plays typical Tottenham football; exciting, high press and progressive football. But I don’t think he’s ready just yet.
He put in three very good performances. In his first spell in the League cup final against Pep Guddiola’s Manchester City. Honestly, the fact we weren’t utterly battered and been made out to be a second rate team from down the pub or a semi pro club from Croydon, was in all honesty a miracle. In all honesty, we dominated parts of that game and probably deserved more. The other performance was in his first spell and was against Leicester. That 4-2 win included an incredible team goal and a Gareth Bale we were able to all be proud off, showcasing Mason’s ability. Finally was in his second spell after taking charge from Stellini, against Leeds. The way he conducted the team against a stubborn Sam Alladyce team was impressive and captivating and showed his ability to be a great manager.
Mason, has a lot of potential but it’s too early for the 32 year old. I think the decision was a very good one for him to stay on as assistant manager as big Ange is probably the closest to him in terms of there positive style of thinking when it comes to management and tactics. Equally I think it would have been better for his personal career to go to a team such as Palace who currently has a vacant position, or the Sheffield Wednesday team and try and put out what sort of dumpster fire is going on there. It would be refreshing not just for him but for the league to see a new manger a bit like Eddie how was a few years ago, and could be a great asset to football in years to come.
Overall, I will sing Mason’s praises to the heavens but his time has not come. His ideology, thinking and management is a testament to this great club and his eloquent style of football is paired beautifully with his passion for this club and I am thrilled he’s staying to help big Ange’s project at the club. But don’t worry Mason your time will come.
Hojberg is unbelievably mid and is just a passion merchant. Not top 6 quality.
I completely agree, every time I go to spurs I sit in my season ticket seat with people I come to gladly have got to know the last few years. They always mock me, as the players walk out of the tunnel sometimes to Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur’s and sometimes unfortunately not, they read out the team sheet moments after. And we all clap and cheer as the names are being read out blood pumping, atmosphere rising. The three I do not clap are: Royal, Hojberg and Sanchez. Ironically now the players the supporters around me clap loudest for. Now normally I would say this is wrong you should always support everyone that puts on the colours of white and navy blue. But in my mind they have come to embody everything wrong with our club particularly Hojberg. Also it has come a bit of a joke amongst the people around me and creates a bit of a bond so on so forth.
Slow, negative and just so boring to watch. I can only remember just a hand full of times where he turned with the ball, to go forward. He’s so negative just playing it back all the time. What’s so frustrating is when he does turn forward he can ping the ball so quickly and directly across the football pitch. I know he’s a holding midfielder, but come on just go forward. I much prefer Skipp just because he goes forward, he takes a chance and why it doesn’t always pay off, he has a considerably better work rate and can read the game to a far more superior degree then Hojberg.
Athletic newspaper, has linked him with clubs like Atletico Madrid for an estimated £35-40 million pounds. The Dane has two years left on his contract. Good let him go. He is widely believed not too fit into Ange’s system I can think of two better holding midfielders in Skipp and Bissouma. And although I realise they both play more higher up the pitch, it shows a diversification in there game that Hojberg doesn’t have. Even players like Abbot, who made a sensational tackle on his debut against Leeds has more potential and use in big Ange’s system the Hojberg does. Go to Madrid or even Roma your so obviously a Mouhrino player; negative, dull and afraid to step past the half way line. It’s better for all parties if the Dane leaves. Thank you for your service and close the door on your way out.
Danjuma should’ve stayed.
Undoubtedly, the most common statement was about this player. I am very mixed about this thought. Danjuma is an incredible player who showed his worth again and again at spurs. He’s quick, good with his feet and has a fairly decent finishing ability. I also respect his character his lot, he held him in such a manor that I found very respectable and did very well against adversity. But should have he stayed?
On one hand I have no doubt that big Ange’s system would’ve have suited him incredibly well. One thing you have to know is that Ange likes his wingers to take on defenders with pace and quick feet. These are probably Danjuma’s strongest attributes and I recon if he would’ve stayed he could’ve scored 15 goals and probably have produced about the same number in assists. What set’s him apart is he can play down the centre too and the Dutch forward would’ve just prevailed next season. I have no doubt he would’ve got at least 9 goals and been a real standout of the season.
But the question is not what was he good enough. He is and would’ve been a huge upgrade on the likes of Gil. But, knowing you have to spend money this summer and knowing you have to save money so early on in the transfer market, do you spend money on the cheaper more proven Kuluveski, or go for the more expensive only played a handful of games Danjuma. You have to also counter in this was before Ange’s appointment and that we also got an incredibly good deal for Kuluveski. So on reflection you put the decision into context ,why Kuluveski didn’t have a great season especially compared to his first. The ginger Swede I would argue was the more sensible option in an uncertain times. And why in hindsight Danjuma would’ve been a great signing, I don’t think it was the wrong decision.
I hope you enjoyed stay notified next I will be publishing a player from every premier league club that we should buy thank you for suggestions I will react to more of them. There was one on Tanganga I promise to get to next time.
